Invicto – Naperville, IL

Invicto is a restaurant currently in Naperville, IL that features authentic Mexican street foods. However, they’re expanding and opening a new location in Vernon Hills, IL and Chicago, IL. David Sloan and Franklin Wiener are co-founders of this growing chain restaurant and partners with One Feeds Two, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide school meals to children in developing countries. For every purchase of a product or meal carrying the One Feeds Two logo at Invicto, they will provide a child in poverty a school meal. I can stand behind that!

There were so many menu items that I wanted try, especially all six different tacos! Below is a list of food and drinks that Frank and I got:

Drinks

  • Aguas fresca (watermelon)
  • Agua fresca (Jamaican)
  • Horchata
  • Horchata cold brew coffee

The drinks were refreshing! I’ve never had horchata cold brew coffee before and am glad I got to try it because it’s now one of my favorite drinks at Invicto. It’s not an overpowering coffee, and you certainly get the horchata flavor. The aguas frescas were cold and sweet. If you absolutely need to settle for one drink though, I recommend the horchata cold brew coffee.

Food

  • Carne asada (grilled steak) corn tortilla taco
  • Pollo asada (grilled chicken) corn tortilla taco
  • Arabes (pork and bacon) corn tortilla taco
  • Chorizo verde (ground pork) corn tortilla taco
  • Elotes (corn) corn tortilla taco
  • Aguacate fritos (crispy avocado) taco
  • Elotes (grilled street corn)
  • Nachos
  • Chips
  • Papas (seasoned fries)
  • Bubble gum paleta

Now this sounds like a lot of food and drinks, but we were able to tackle most of it and enjoyed them all! I recommend getting their tacos because they’re fresh and use house-made corn tortillas. My favorite tacos were arabes (pork and bacon) and carne asada (grilled steak), which were seasoned really well. The nachos and chips were perfect for snacking. You should also get papas (seasoned fries) and elotes (grilled street corn) as sides because they’re quite delicious. I remember eating elotes as a kid whenever the street vendor came around with the Mexican food cart and selling them on a stick for $1 each. Those were the good ol’ days, but it’s convenient that elotes are served in a cup now!

Bubble gum paleta bar

Given my sweet tooth, I had to end the meal with dessert. The paletas had the right portions, and I liked the variety of flavors. I wanted to try them all but ultimately settled for the bubble gum one. Not only does it look awesome, but it made me reminisce carnival days for some reason. It tasted like bubble gum and had a smooth, rich texture.

Overall, it was a great experience and wonderful meal. I’m super excited for the Chicago location since that would be closer to me. I’ll definitely be back to try the other menu items and more paletas of course!
